Time Flies

Wow!
Time is has been flying lately, my son was married in June and in March my daughter had my first grandchild. Wonderful times!!! Life may never be "normal" again. I have a lot of out of town traveling for my day job coming up. My heart is longing to play in my gems and beads. I have designs swirling in my head that I can't wait to start on. Funny, no matter how busy I am, I never tire of my craft. Hope to post some new items soon. Have a great summer.

Creative Stress Relief

My day job as a grantwriter can be very stressful at times, especially with many grants due at the same deadline. When I tell people whom I work with that I design and sell jewelry some say they do not know how I am able to do so much. Personally, I don't know how I would survive if I did not have this creative outlet. I suppose it is the right brain vs left brain concept. It is so soothing to work with the luscious gemstones and very gratifying to create something beautiful for others to enjoy and wear. Someone said to me today that wearing my jewelry was their stress reliever. I had never thought about it like that before, that using my creativity could make another person's life more pleasant. That really makes me smile inside :)

May Festivals

On Saturday, May 6th Simply Susan Jewelry will be at the Chickamauga Downhome Days, in the historical district of Chickamauga, Georgia, just outside of the Chickamauga Battlefield Park.

Green Designing

Sales for new jewelry have been down with all the economic issues. However, I seem to be finding a new niche with green designing. This is a great time to repair, re-purpose, and re-use items and jewelry is not exception. I have had several customers bringing in items for repair, or re-design for items. Sometimes there are items that are sentimental and you just want to repair them. Other times you have a item with some good gemstones or elements that you want to keep but just redesign. For example, a friend brought me a lovely piece that she purchase in Arizona about 20 years ago that was only worn a few times. It was sentimental but it just was too big and uncomfortable. I was able to redesign the piece into a new design that she could enjoy and wear, and be stylish with an up-to-date design. What a great way to go green! So go clear out your jewelry boxes and see what ideas you can come up with. I'm sure you have something that could be freshened up and re-purposed.
